In addition to having taught Elementary Physical Education for over 17 years, Shay grew up playing sports and even played soccer for the University of Texas at Austin. Outside of school, she has coached Special Olympics Soccer, served as a board member of a nonprofit called It Starts with Soccer, and has been instrumental in founding and supporting a school in Zambia, Africa. Shay's hobbies include traveling, playing card games, building lamps, painting, crafting, playing kickball, and solving Sudoku puzzles. She also currently runs a PE-focused elementary after-school Kids College class and Holiday/Summer Camp called CAMP DRIP. Shay also enjoy a number of adventures with her husband, Christian, and her son, Dezi. Shay is also the recipient of the 2019 District Elementary Teacher of the Year award for DSISD.
